Touch Designer & VCV

Dimensions Variable
This project is an audiovisual experiment exploring real-time interaction between VCV Rack and TouchDesigner, aiming to investigate more open and dynamic relationships between sound and image. Sound functions as the core driving force of the system, where modular audio structures and generative visual systems are mapped to one another to form a non-linear audiovisual experience.

In the initial stage, the musical structure was developed in VCV Rack, with rhythmic patterns—particularly percussive beats—serving as the primary temporal framework. The composition emphasizes rhythm, repetition, and variations in timing. Based on research into the visual representation of text, symbols, and rhythm, a corresponding visual system was then designed in TouchDesigner, focusing on the deconstruction, layering, and displacement of typographic elements.

The two systems are connected via OSC (Open Sound Control), allowing rhythmic and dynamic changes in the audio modules to directly influence visual parameters in real time. In this process, sound is not merely visualized; instead, it actively participates in the logic of visual generation, continuously reshaping the visual outcome.

Through this experiment, the project seeks to blur the boundary between sound and image, and to explore the potential of modular audio systems as generative drivers within audiovisual art practice.
